If you were to guess what your client’s day looks like, would it be something like this?
==> tons of emails asking for or offering up advice and opinions
==> excessive meetings in dull meeting rooms where people ask for or offer up advice and opinions
==> people sitting on the other side of the desk asking for or offering up advice and opinions.
So what makes you different from all that?
What makes your relationship more than just another transaction?
What makes what you do extraordinary? Fun? Provocative? Challenging?
At the end of the year – when your client is considering renewal or not – she will primarily remember the experience you’ve created for them, not the specifics of the advice you’ve given and the reports you’ve sent.
Don’t stop providing excellent advice and opinions.
But think about how you could do it in a way that breaks the pattern.
Just getting them up from behind the desk and out for a walk would be a great start.
